Shrouded in mist, ferns, vines and thick mosses that stretch hundreds of feet into a thick forest canopy, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve is a true nature lover’s paradise. On high ridges, the wind sculpts the trees into gnarled forests, and clear streams tumble down into bubbling brooks and rhythmic waterfalls. Spending three days in Monteverde offers a chance to explore all seven trails in the forest reserve, totaling more than six miles. Serenity and beauty prevail on these paths, as no more than 120 people are allowed on them at any given time, helping preserve the magic of the forest.

The expansive Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve is home to more than 100 species of mammals, 120 species of reptiles and amphibians and over 2,500 species of plants. Flower lovers will find 420 different kinds of orchids. Exotic creatures roam the lush forests, including jaguars, ocelots, and the rare resplendent Quetzal. At the world-renown Monteverde Butterfly Garden, you’ll have a chance to learn about the life cycle of hundreds of beautiful butterflies.

The Original Canopy Tour: After a short guided hike through a private forest reserve, you’ll climb up a ladder to the first platform. This is followed by a soaring ride through the treetops along a series of cables connecting the trees. At the last platform, you’ll rappel down to the forest floor. Another half-block hike later and you’ll find yourself climbing a rope ladder inside the hollow trunk of a Strangler Fig tree. At the top, 22 meters above the ground, you’ll find an eight-meter-long walkway that offers a superb view of the dense rainforest. Our expert guides will assist you from platform to platform before a second rappel finally brings you back to terra firme once again.

Monteverde SkyWalk: See the forest canopy from a safe, yet radical perspective, with this exciting new attraction. Walk through a unique system of seven suspension bridges that zigzag through deep canyons at the level of the treetops. The longest of these bridges is about 200 meters (656 feet) in length.

Monteverde Sky Trek: Three platforms suspended high above the ground take you into the thick of the canopy. Zip lines and special equipment help you safely slide from platform to platform. A long, high suspended bridge offers an up-close view into the heart of the forest, and an observation platform high above the canopy provides a stunning view few ever experience: the top of the forest, with 360-degree panoramic vistas stretching all the way to the lowlands of Guanacaste, San Carlos and Puntarenas.
