Corcovado Jungle Adventure
(4 days / 3 nights)
Four days of adventure begin as your plane takes off from San José
and flies over rugged mountains, lush jungles and flat farmland, en route
to Costa Rica’s wild southern Pacific coast. Your final destination,
La Paloma Jungle Lode, is hidden within a 150-acre reserve. Only 15 minutes
away by boat, the entrance to Corcovado National Park opens its doors
to many of Central America’s endangered species, and is the last
substantial tract of Pacific lowland rain forest in the region.
The cross-country flight takes less than an hour, touching down in Palmar
Sur. Guests are then transported to Drake Bay by boat, passing by the
mangroves that line the Sierpe River. The expert boat captain skillfully
navigates the high waves and brings you into the dreamy blue waters of
Drake Bay, named after Sir Francis Drake, who anchored there in 1579.
The remoteness of the rainforest and La Paloma lodge’s rustic construction
combine to create a dream-like setting perfect honeymooners and nature
lovers alike. The lodge offers a wealth of options to occupy your time,
these include restful naps, elegant meals, splashing around in the spring-fed
pool, or quietly listening to exotic jungle sounds while relaxing at the
bar.
The following two days will be packed with adventure, including an unbelievable
snorkeling excursion at Caño Island, and a guided hike into Corcovado
National Park.
National Geographic Magazine called the park “one of the most biologically
intense places on earth.” The park’s trails run through thousands
of acres of virgin rainforest, amid countless species of plants and some
of Central America’s endangered animals. The forest canopy soars
high overhead, while orchid-draped trees form natural roofs over clear
sparkling streams.
The park has Costa Rica’s greatest concentration of wildlife, and
includes 13 major ecosystems within its borders.
