The Pacuare Protected Zone

Deep within the Atlantic region of Costa Rica, there lies an area of superb exquisiteness, a protected zone of uncompromising beauty that begins near the town of Siquirres and covers approximately 25,000 acres as it moves down the Talamanca Mountain Range. This zone is known as Pacuare, and it is one of the most important protected areas in the region. Its proximity to the lowlands and its high annual rainfall unite to make this an ideal place for a profusion of complex life systems.

The Pacuare River, officially designated a “Wild and Scenic River”, is located here and offers some of the best and most spectacular white water rafting in all of Latin America. Bounded by a resplendently verdant rainforest, the Pacuare River courses rapidly through spectacular canyons, meanders leisurely within steep gorges, or cascades down as impressive waterfalls as it makes its way among the thick vegetation that harbors a dazzling array of wildlife species that include monkeys, sloths, jaguars, ocelots and many other mammals and birds.
Situated on the banks of this remarkable river, at the heart of the Pacuare Protected Zone, is the singular Pacuare Lodge.
